Taking 50mg of sertraline with fish oil may slightly increase your risk of bruising or bleeding. While both are generally safe to take together, they both have mild blood-thinning effects which can add up when combined.

Why this happens
Sertraline (an SSRI) can affect how platelets in your blood clump together to stop bleeding. Fish oil (omega-3 fatty acids) also has a mild natural blood-thinning effect. Together, they may make your blood take slightly longer to clot.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is usually fine to take these together, but you should use caution. Watch for signs of unusual bruising, nosebleeds, or gums that bleed more than usual when brushing your teeth. If you are planning to have surgery, tell your doctor or surgeon that you are taking both of these supplements.
