Why this happens

Both drugs have the potential to cause 'myelosuppression' (bone marrow suppression) as a side effect. This means they can slow down the production of blood cells. When used together, their effects on the bone marrow can add up, significantly increasing the risk of a dangerously low white blood cell count (leucopenia or agranulocytosis).

You must speak to your doctor before taking these two medicines together. If your doctor decides the combination is necessary, you will need regular blood tests to monitor your white blood cell levels. Seek medical help immediately if you develop signs of an infection, such as a high temperature (fever), sore throat, mouth ulcers, or unexplained bruising.
