Taking amitriptyline and telmisartan together can cause your blood pressure to drop too low. This may make you feel dizzy, light-headed, or faint, especially when standing up quickly from a sitting or lying position.

Why this happens
Both medications have the effect of lowering blood pressure. Telmisartan is designed to do this, but amitriptyline also has a side effect of lowering blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension). When used together, these effects add up.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou can take these together, but you should be cautious. Move slowly when changing positions (like getting out of bed). If you feel very dizzy or faint, contact your doctor, as they may need to adjust your doses. Monitor your blood pressure regularly if you have a home monitor.
