Can I take Amlodipine and Mounjaro together?

Drug interaction guide

Taking Mounjaro (tirzepatide) alongside amlodipine may cause your blood pressure to drop lower than intended. You might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or faint, especially when standing up quickly. Additionally, Mounjaro can slow down how quickly your stomach empties, which might slightly change how your body absorbs amlodipine, though the effect on blood pressure is the main concern.

Why this happens

Mounjaro can cause weight loss and has a mild diuretic effect (helping the body get rid of salt and water), both of which naturally lower blood pressure. When combined with amlodipine (a blood pressure medication), these effects add together. Mounjaro also slows 'gastric emptying' (the speed at which food and pills leave the stomach), which can sometimes delay how quickly other medicines start to work.

You should monitor your blood pressure regularly at home. If you feel dizzy, weak, or see very low readings, contact your doctor. They may need to reduce your dose of amlodipine as you lose weight or as the Mounjaro takes effect. Always stand up slowly from a sitting or lying position to avoid dizzy spells.
