Why this happens

Oestrogens like estradiol can cause the body to retain sodium and water. This increases the volume of fluid in the blood vessels, which can counteract the blood-pressure-lowering effects of calcium channel blockers like amlodipine.

It is generally safe to take these together, but you should monitor your blood pressure regularly. If you notice your blood pressure readings are higher than usual, or if you experience new swelling in your ankles or feet, speak to your doctor. They may need to adjust your amlodipine dose.
