Sandrena (estradiol) may cause your body to hold onto more salt and water than usual. This can lead to fluid retention and swelling, which may slightly increase your blood pressure. This effect can work against amlodipine, which is designed to lower your blood pressure.

Why this happens
Oestrogens like estradiol can cause the body to retain sodium and water. This increases the volume of fluid in the blood vessels, which can counteract the blood-pressure-lowering effects of calcium channel blockers like amlodipine.
What you should do

If you notice your blood pressure readings are higher than usual, or if you experience new swelling in your ankles or feet, speak to your doctor. They may need to adjust your amlodipine dose.
