Why this happens
Both medicines affect how your blood clots but in different ways. Apixaban blocks a specific protein (Factor Xa) involved in clotting, while the aspirin in Bisodol stops platelets (blood cells) from sticking together. When used together, their effects add up, significantly increasing the risk of a haemorrhage.
What you should do
Back to contentsDo not take Bisodol while you are taking apixaban. If you have indigestion, ask your pharmacist or doctor for an alternative that does not contain aspirin or ibuprofen (such as a simple antacid like Gaviscon or Rennie). If you have already taken them together and notice any unusual bruising, black tarry stools, or bleeding that won't stop, seek medical advice immediately.
