Why this happens
Both medicines work to lower blood pressure but in different ways: bisoprolol is a 'beta-blocker' that slows the heart, while lercanidipine is a 'calcium channel blocker' that widens blood vessels. When used together, their effects add up (an additive effect), which can significantly lower blood pressure and heart rate.
What you should do
Back to contentsThis combination is common and often prescribed by doctors to treat high blood pressure, but you should be monitored closely. When you first start taking them together, or if your dose is increased, take extra care when standing up. If you feel very dizzy, tired, or notice a very slow pulse, contact your doctor. Do not stop taking either medicine without medical advice.
