Taking Calcichew-D3 at the same time as levothyroxine can significantly reduce the amount of thyroid hormone your body absorbs. This can lead to your thyroid medication not working properly, potentially causing symptoms of an underactive thyroid such as tiredness, weight gain, and feeling cold.

Why this happens
The calcium carbonate in Calcichew-D3 binds to the levothyroxine in your stomach and intestines. This creates a complex that is too large for your body to absorb into the bloodstream, meaning the medicine simply passes through your system without effect.
What you should do
Back to contentsYou must separate the doses of these two medications. It is recommended to take your levothyroxine on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, and then wait at least 4 hours before taking your Calcichew-D3. Do not stop taking either medication without consulting your doctor, as they may need to monitor your thyroid levels.
