Why this happens

Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin. Curcumin can interfere with the natural enzymes in your liver (specifically CYP2C19 and CYP3A4) that break down Losec. This can lead to higher levels of the medicine in your body. Additionally, while turmeric is often used for digestion, it can sometimes stimulate the production of stomach acid, which works against what Losec is trying to achieve.

It is generally fine to use turmeric in normal cooking amounts. However, if you are taking high-dose turmeric or curcumin supplements, you should speak with your doctor or pharmacist first. Monitor yourself for any new side effects or if your acid reflux symptoms seem to get worse.
