Both Royal Sun (Agaricus blazei) and Shiitake mushrooms can lower blood sugar levels and thin the blood. Taking them together might increase the risk of your blood sugar dropping too low (hypoglycaemia) or make you bruise or bleed more easily.

Why this happens
These mushrooms contain compounds called beta-glucans and other chemicals that can improve insulin sensitivity and inhibit platelets (the cells that help your blood clot). When combined, these effects can be additive.
What you should do
Back to contentsIt is usually fine to eat these as part of a normal diet. However, if you are taking concentrated supplements, you should use caution. Monitor your blood sugar levels closely if you have diabetes, and watch for signs of easy bruising or bleeding. If you have an upcoming surgery, stop taking these supplements at least two weeks beforehand.

Taking these two medicines together significantly increases the risk of a rare but serious condition called 'serotonin syndrome'. This happens when there is too much of a chemical called serotonin in your brain. Symptoms can include feeling very agitated, confused, or shaky, as well as sweating, a fast heartbeat, muscle twitching, or diarrhoea. In severe cases, it can be life-threatening.

Can I take Methotrexate and Tylenol together?
Taking paracetamol (Tylenol) while on methotrexate is generally safe at standard doses, but there is a small risk that it could increase the levels of methotrexate in your blood or increase the strain on your liver. This is more likely to be a concern if you are taking high doses of methotrexate (usually for cancer) rather than the lower doses used for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis.
